Kinja'd!!!

I think this says a lot about the state of our government. The story given here is about the stupid tweets, not the fact that this government official was a god damn event planner before being appointed by Trump. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’d much prefer someone with SOME experience with whatever they are running.

I’m convinced social media is altering our society in a permanent fashion, and not in a good way, by removing any hints of civility or decency.

It’s interesting what’s happened with 45 in office. On one hand I’ve always thought that non-politicians need to be in office to bring their own backgrounds to the job. That’s is assuming they bring some applicable experience of course. But after the shitshow that has become of the executive branch, I’m not so sure the answer is non-politicians. The real shame is what has become of the House and senate and the lack of cooperation just because of party affiliation. But I’m digressing... some people just don’t deserve the responsibility of being in charge of anything. But they take they’re cues from the boss, so....

in 50-100 years or so, history will look back upon men like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg with contempt for their destruction of basic human social decency.

I’m all for non-politicians in office to, but if you’re going to appoint someone to a position in Housing and Urban Development at least appoint some who is a civil engineer, or managed a city’s housing department, or hell even has built houses...but an even planner?

I think an actual businessperson (not a lucky rich guy with megalomaniacal tendencies) would do pretty well navigating the organizational and political hassles. To me, Trump’s single biggest flaw is that he always reacts, rather than responding slowly, calmly, or intelligently.

I don’t really care if he “speaks his mind” (true) or “it gets the job done” (eh...maybe). The delivery and approach count for just as much.

Abe Lincoln was often a fairweather policy man and fanatical manipulator of the media and sculpted a lot of his own image, but he managed to do it with grace and come out of his presidency as a hero. All politicians could learn from that.

You just reminded me of something... When Obama was elected (and before the election I guess), there was constant complaining about his lack of political experience. “He’s a community organizer!”

Not sure if there’s anything more to that thought...

I sway more to the right side of the aisle and had a ton of arguments with friends (and some strangers) during the election about this; Trump is 100% incapable of separating “The Donald” from “President Trump.” I think anyone going from essentially a private citizen to a major political figure would struggle with it, but he is just too dumb to handle making that transition.

I won’t wait nearly that long to form the same opinion.

Seriously, all technology has it’s positives and negatives. Now that it’s been around for a few generations, what’s your opinion of television? Did it change the world for good, with its instant access to live news/information, current events, sports, movies, documentaries.....?

Or did it make us idiot couch potatoes watching Family Guy?

My smartphone is an incredibly powerful and useful device. Does loading the Facebook app take away the other 95% of it’s positive usefulness? My point is, Facebook (and Twitter, etc) gave us an incredibly powerful platform to communicate with each other, all around the world, instantly.

While he bears some responsibility for how it operates, he can’t dictate how people choose to use it.

A mouthy appointed “official” in this worst regime EVER with no real experience, credibility, or credentials? Say it aint so!

Kind of a hypocritical insult, too.

It’s not the tool, it’s how you use it. At least that’s the NRA’s argument.

Except that Zuckerberg guy. Fuck him.

I mean, Abe Lincoln also free the slaves and put down an insureection led by racists. That probably helped make him a hero more than his eloquence.

He also got shot in the head, proving that eloquence can only takenyou so far.

Well, he also failed to stop an easy war by not dedicating proper resources and attention to it. It should have taken a few months, but dragged on for four years. I liken him to GW Bush in a lot of ways. Well, except the eloquence part.

In the end, he got the job done, but at what cost?

Yeah, imagine if Lincoln had invaded some unrelated nation while the Civil War was going on. He would have claimed that this unrelated nation had secretly purchased slaves from Niger, and thus their invasion was apart of the Global War on Slavery (GWOS). This would have laid the groundwork for a self-perpetuating war on radical slavery which we’d probably still be fighting today. We should all thank General Sherman for saving us from this never ending war.

LOL, but a slightly different direction — more like expanding a naively simple war and changing its meaning to suit your populist goals over time. Preserve the Union/Find bin Laden or End Slavery/Free Iraq!

Lincoln was much better at this because he had unequivocal ethical reasons on his side, while Bush didn’t. But both of them grossly mishandled their conflicts.

Well if you know how to plan an event, you should know how to plan for housing and urban development, right? RIGHT???
